"I just wanted a shower" and other previously easy tasks made complicated

Oh motherhood, some days I feel like I actually kinda know what I'm doing and other days I'm just trying to make it to nap time without breaking out the wine. Today was kinda a mix of the two. Munchkin did have a really good 3ish hour nap this afternoon so I was able to get some laundry and cleaning done (cause nesting is still a thing that happens postpartum, at least for me) and he was even content to sit in his little chair while I finished one mini-project. Then this evening everything kinda went downhill. Now he normally has a fussy time (aka the witching hour) anywhere between 6-9 pm where he doesn't wanna sit anywhere he wants to be held and rocked (or walked). Of course at this point in the day mommy's back is sore, her arms hurt from holding him for feedings and such, and all I want is to be able to put him down somewhere and sit with him. Side note, finally broke down and ordered a carrier yesterday. I planned on getting one anyway but I'm convinced this k...

Growth Spurts & Growing Pains

Hey, I'm starting to write this at 11:11 pm, make a wish! Anyway, fresh outta my shower and coming to you live from my bed, it's your favorite part of the evening...guess Kim's mental state! Your choices are as follows:                A) Everything's fine, I actually got a decent amount of sleep!                B) Everything is definitely NOT fine, when was the last time I ate or didn't flinch whenever my baby makes a noise?                C) Somewhere in between...but seriously when did I last eat? If you guessed C, you'd be right. And don't worry, I did have dinner tonight and it was delicious (margherita pizza on cauliflower crust). In all honestly though I have been on an emotional roller coaster these past 6 weeks (yes I can't believe he's 6 weeks already!). I went to see my doctor on Tuesday and physically everything looks good but emotionally, well I'm ...

Hooray, Mother's Day!

Oh hey Mother's Day, this holiday actually applies to me now, and not just in the sympathy "fur mom" category (no offense fellow fur mamas)! It's rather exciting I must admit, as I'm sure is the case for many firsts, to be able to fully celebrate this day. Check me out, I'm a mom now! All the advertising nonsense applies to me! Now seeing as I'm writing this at 11:45 on the 11th it's not technically Mother's Day yet and as such I cannot report on how the actual day will go but I can report on how I've been feeling leading up to this most memorable moment. Strap in guys, we're about to go on an emotional roller coaster... So, as stated previously, me and the boyfriend/father of Sir Sean (as an aside, yay for royal baby but really...Archie?!) live in different states. So I've been, quite literally, a single parent since munchkin was born. Now hopefully that will change but until then, there's obviously been some resentment....

Heartbeats and Headaches

Back again I see. Well here it is; the good, the bad, and that weird that was my pre-birth experience. I say pre-birth as opposed to just birth story because this is about more than just my birth story. Oh yes, before we get to the big top in this 3-ring circus first lets take a look at stage left. So, after that first ultrasound the first phone call I made (besides friends and family of course) was to my OB's office. Now you would think a woman who's had no prenatal care for the first two trimesters would get an appointment right away right? NOPE! I called three different days in a row, told three different people I needed to get in to see my doctor asap, that I was roughly about 30 weeks along and could we get this ball rolling please? Apparently I was talking to a blank wall those three times because finally, fed up before I even got into the office, my mom pulled out her trump card. You see, my OB is really great, I've been going to her since I started getting tho...

Greetings Adventurer

So, you've stumbled across my journey into motherhood. I'll give you one last chance to turn back before diving down this rabbit hole with me. ...Still here? Ok then here we go! First things first, a little background information to set the stage. If you were to tell me a year ago, having just turned 30 mind you, I'd be a mother before I turned 31 I'd have thought you were joking. Seriously, me? You sure you have the right girl? Yes I want kids but my boyfriend is in a different state and I still live at home! No, not me, you've got the wrong girl. Oh how wrong I would have been... While my boyfriend/fiance/ baby daddy (seriously, I hate that term) is still in another state and I do still live at home I am, indeed, a mom. Now this is where things get awkward for me, because I have certainly wanted to have children since college, but obviously I was not anticipating becoming a mother at this point in my life. So how is that awkward you might ask? Well, I...
